You’ve Been Authenticated by God: The Spiritual Blessings You Already Have in Christ
Most of us pray for blessings as though they’re all still coming: the breakthrough, the provision, the favor we’re waiting on. But Ephesians 1 makes a stunning claim: if you’re in Christ, you are already blessed “with every spiritual blessing” (Ephesians 1:3). Not someday. Already.
I’ve been slowly studying the book of Ephesians ,sitting with it, not just reading through it, and the second half of chapter one reframed how I see my own identity. Before we go further, one honest disclaimer: I’m not a pastor, a preacher, or a seminary graduate. I’m a woman who loves the Lord and is prioritizing her spiritual growth, bringing you along with me. So with all things, trust but verify. Read God’s Word for yourself, pray over it, and ask the Holy Spirit for understanding.
Here’s what I don’t want you to miss: you have been authenticated by God.
What are the spiritual blessings we have in Christ?
According to Ephesians 1, believers have already received seven spiritual blessings in Christ: election, adoption, redemption, forgiveness, revelation, inheritance, and being sealed with the Holy Spirit. These aren’t rewards you’re still earning or favors you’re waiting on, they are your present, permanent standing before God the moment you’re in Christ. Understanding them changes how you see yourself, how you handle fear, and how you face spiritual battles.
Let’s sit with three of them from Ephesians 1:9-14, because they carry the most weight for how you live day to day.
Your inheritance far outweighs anything this world offers
Ephesians 1:11 says that in Christ “we have also received an inheritance.” And here’s the sobering comparison: whatever blessing you have here on earth is small next to what’s waiting for you in heaven. “So many people are living for now,” for this life only. But it doesn’t compare. I don’t care if you had a billionaire’s access to endless resources; it still wouldn’t rival what God has prepared for those who are His.
That truth doesn’t make this life meaningless, it makes it lighter. When your deepest security is an inheritance no one can touch, the ups and downs of earthly life stop having the final say over your peace.
God is sovereign and the enemy cannot stop His plans
The same passage reminds us that God “works out everything in agreement with the purpose of his will” (Ephesians 1:11). He is sovereign. Satan cannot stop the plans of God. Even in a world full of chaos and madness. And yes, it’s hard to hold “God is in control” and the state of the world in the same hand, but scripture holds them together. The brokenness is a consequence of sin and free will in a fallen world; God’s sovereignty over the outcome is never in question.
Which leads to the truth that reframes spiritual warfare entirely: warfare is about authority, not power. Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Matthew 28:18). The outcome of the war has already been decided, “he disarmed the powers and authorities… triumphing over them by the cross” (Colossians 2:15). Satan is a defeated ruler who refuses to surrender. His weapons are deception, accusation, and fear. He cannot override Jesus’s authority, he can only challenge your understanding of it. That single line is why staying in your Bible matters so much: the enemy’s whole strategy is to distort what you understand about who you already are.
You are sealed…stamped as belonging to God
Ephesians 1:13 says that in Christ, “you were also sealed with the promised Holy Spirit” — the seventh blessing. Look up the word sealed and you’ll find it signifies a stamp of ownership and authentication. So let this land: I’ve been authenticated by God. You’ve been authenticated by God. You are set apart, distinguished, and marked as belonging to Him.
And the Spirit within you is more than help for today. Verse 14 calls Him “the down payment,” the guarantee of your inheritance. Everything the Holy Spirit does for you now (teaching, comforting, convicting, growing, assuring you) is just a glimpse of the eternity secured for you. Your today is backed by your forever.
A coaching moment: answer the enemy differently
Here’s where this stops being information and becomes identity.
The next time fear, accusation, or that familiar “who do you think you are” whisper shows up, remember its source: a defeated ruler challenging your understanding, not your standing. So answer it accordingly; your posture becomes holy defiance: I’ve been authenticated by God. Leave me alone.
Try this: write down one lie the enemy keeps using to challenge your understanding of who you are: you’re not enough, you’re disqualified, God’s done with you. Then write the Ephesians 1 truth beside it, I am chosen, forgiven, sealed, and authenticated by God. Keep it where you’ll see it. Surrounding yourself with those truths daily, the way I designed my Renewed Scripture Card Deck to help you do, is how the enemy’s lies lose their grip. Winning the spiritual battle isn’t about working up more power; it’s about standing in the authority Christ already secured.
One reflection to carry: God is going to work everything out in agreement with the purpose of His will for your life. The only real question is: are you going to work with Him, or against Him?
